Woud Terms of Service
Effective 5 August 2026 · Last updated 5 August 2026 · Version 1.0
1. Who these Terms are between
These Terms are an agreement between Dev Studios Digital (PTY) LTD (“Woud”, “we”) and you, the adult parent or guardian (“Guardian”, “you”) who sets up and supervises use of the Woud app (“the Service”). You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to accept these Terms. By downloading, setting up or using Woud, you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What Woud is
Woud is a shared bedtime story app for children, in which an authored story-world is personalised by AI and read aloud. It is intended for a Guardian to set up and use together with, and under the supervision of, the child or children in their care.
3. Your responsibilities as the Guardian
- You are the parent or legal guardian of each child who uses the Service through your account, and you consent to the data processing described in the Privacy Policy.
- You will supervise children's use, appropriate to their age.
- You will not enter a child's real name or real personal details into the app — Woud uses pretend in-world names by design.
- The settings you choose, such as age band, are accurate.
4. Children's use
The Service is designed for children but is operated through the Guardian's account. Children may not create accounts or accept these Terms themselves. You are responsible for use of the Service under your account.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to, and not to permit anyone to:
- use the Service unlawfully, or to harm, harass or endanger anyone;
- attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its AI systems, or to extract data at scale;
- deliberately try to make the AI produce unsafe, harmful or out-of-world content, or enter another person's personal information;
- resell or commercially exploit the Service without our permission.
We may suspend or end access that breaches these Terms or threatens the safety of children or of the Service.
6. AI-generated content
Parts of each story are generated by AI and are fiction, for entertainment. While we design strong guardrails to keep content gentle, age-appropriate and in-world, AI can occasionally produce unexpected output. Woud's content is not advice of any kind — educational, medical, psychological or otherwise.
If you ever see content that seems inappropriate for a child, please stop and email ops@dev-studios.com with the date, the time and roughly what was said. We treat these reports ahead of everything else, we aim to acknowledge within one working day, and we are able to disable adaptive generation across the entire service within minutes while we investigate.
7. Accounts
An account is created to save your story-world. Woud can be used without signing in; if you choose to sign in so your stories follow you between devices, you are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You can delete your data at any time from Settings → “Forget everything.”
8. Purchases and subscriptions
Woud offers three tiers:
- Free — “Bedtime, together”: a complete core bedtime experience at no cost — authored Adventures, an owned roster character, guided choices, and parent-read or on-device narration.
- Family — “Your living world”: a paid subscription adding the growing story library, composing your own character, the adaptive live-generated world that remembers your choices, and cached narration.
- Premium — “The full world”: a paid subscription adding the premium expressive narration voice, additional languages, and the richest generation.
At the South African launch, prices are R79.99 per month or R719.99 per year for Family, and R129.99 per month or R1,199.99 per year for Premium, each including VAT. New families are offered a 7-day free trial of a paid tier, after which access returns to Free unless the subscription continues.
Billing. Paid tiers are sold as auto-renewing subscriptions through the Apple App Store and charged to your Apple account. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel at any time in your Apple account settings — on your device, Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling during a free trial means you are not charged. Current prices are always shown in the app before you buy. Store purchases are also governed by Apple's own terms, and refunds are handled by Apple under its policy.
Child-safe commerce. Woud shows no advertising and uses no manipulative or “pester-power” purchase design. Purchase and subscription actions sit behind a parental gate, and nothing needed to enjoy a complete bedtime story is locked behind payment. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights under the South African Consumer Protection Act or other consumer law that applies to you.
9. Intellectual property
- Our content: the Woud world, its characters, names, art, audio, software and authored story elements are owned by Dev Studios Digital (PTY) LTD or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your family's personal, non-commercial bedtime use.
- Your story-world: the personalised story that emerges from your family's play is generated for you. You grant us only the narrow licence needed to store it, process it and display it back to you so the Service can work. We do not claim broader rights over it, we do not use it to train AI models, and we do not use it to promote Woud.
10. Privacy
Your privacy — and your child's — is governed by the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated content will always meet every expectation. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a consumer's non-excludable statutory rights.
12. Limitation of liability
Subject to section 11, our total liability arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or end the Service, or your access to it, for the reasons in section 5, or on reasonable notice for legitimate business reasons.
14. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may update the Service and, on notice, these Terms. Material changes take effect 30 days after we post them; continued use after that means acceptance. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service — and you may delete your data.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, and disputes are subject to the courts of South Africa — without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights, including any right to bring a claim in the courts of your own country of residence.
